Customizing Sharepoint Search Box -

I followed the path to change the way the SharePoint search box has been shown.

My first problem is, after modifying the file, SearchArea.xml , is there a way to apply the reload? Reload frequency seems very random.

Bonus Question: What is the best way to do this? This is the easiest I've found, but when the project has been deployed, the client does not seem to be very optimized to change the file on the production server.
